Whale Watching Daily Diary – April 17th 2026

Today’s weather conditions were simply perfect – the sun was shining brightly and the sea was wonderfully calm. We set sail from the old harbour in Reykjavik towards the open waters of Faxaflói Bay, enjoying smooth sailing and excellent visibility throughout the tour.

About 40 minutes after departure, we were thrilled to spot the first blows from humpback whales. It didn’t take long before we realized just how many were in the area – we encountered a large number of humpbacks, and several of them treated us to spectacular breaches, launching their massive bodies out of the water in unforgettable displays.

Throughout the tour, we were also accompanied by charming flocks of puffins resting on the water and flying around us. In addition, we were lucky to spot a few harbour porpoises, quickly surfacing and disappearing again as they moved gracefully through the calm sea.

With the ocean so still, conditions were ideal for wildlife watching, and the whales seemed to be enjoying it as much as we did. The combination of abundant marine life, incredible whale activity, and the peaceful surroundings made for a truly special experience.

A perfect day at sea and very happy passengers!
