Whale Watching Daily Diary – April 28th 2026
The weather today was truly Icelandic – windy, with rain, and the sea was very rough; out in the open bay, the waves were as high as 4 metres! Fortunately, the whales were waiting for us right by the harbour gate.
We spotted a long, black silhouette – a minke whale! Shortly after seeing the first one, we realised that in the area between the harbour and the islands of Engey and Akurey, there were as many as three whales of this species. They were circling quite actively around our boat; there must have been plenty of fish in the area as the gannets were diving every few moments.
The show of today was therefore stolen by minke whales! Despite the bad weather, the views, the whales and the rest of the wildlife were fantastic, and we ended the day with smiles on our faces.
