Whale Watching Daily Diary – April 30th 2026

Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; 2 harbour porpoises as they swim in calm water near reykjavik

The sea was quite choppy again today. Yet we weren’t discouraged and decided to attempt to find some animals in the ocean. Just off Grotta, we spotted some humpback whale blows. However, after waiting for about twenty minutes, the humpback didn’t return to the surface, it probably wasn’t in the mood to make friends today. We made up for it by seeing a lovely sighting of porpoises, which came quite close to the boat. On the way back to the harbour, it was lovely to see the minke whales again, which have been hanging around the area for days without ever travelling too far. Sometimes patience pays off and a day when we thought we’d seen very little, we eventually spotted two different species of whale present at Faxafloi!
