Whale Watching Daily Diary – May 19th 2026
Morning tour
The morning in Faxaflói was beautiful with calm seas flat like a mirror and bright sunshine all around.
We first spotted a minke whale several times moving quietly through the glassy water.
At one moment the whale surfaced very close in front of the boat, giving everyone an unforgettable view.
The conditions were perfect with almost no wind and crystal clear visibility across the bay.
Later in the tour we encountered a group of white-beaked dolphins in the distance.
Some of the dolphins were jumping beautifully above the calm ocean under the sunny sky.
Afternoon tour
The afternoon tour brought us wonderful sightings under calm sea conditions and bright skies.
We encountered two humpback whales, each swimming on their own about two miles apart from one another.
The second humpback was especially active and repeatedly slapped its large white pectoral fin on the surface. The powerful splashes could be seen clearly across the calm ocean, creating an unforgettable display.
On our way back toward the harbour, we were treated to one final surprise.
Shortly before arriving, a minke whale surfaced beautifully right in front of the boat, giving us a fantastic close sighting to end the tour.
