Whale Watching Daily Diary – May 20th 2026
Today brought a taste of summer – the temperature reached 13 degrees (!), the sky was clear and sunny, and there was a light breeze. The sea was calm by Atlantic standards, but we could feel the swelling in the deeper parts of the bay.
Morning tour
In the morning, we encountered a beautiful adult humpback whale, which showed us its almost entirely black tail! On the way back, we also came across a pod of harbour porpoises, which, however, disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.
Afternoon tour
In the afternoon, we encountered a pod of white-beaked dolphins, who were incredibly playful today. Jumps, splashes, acrobatics. A beautiful show! We then headed to the spot where we’d seen the humpback – and we were in luck, spotting a large blow. We spent the rest of the tour in the company of this gentle giant.
