Whale Watching Daily Diary – May 24th 2026

Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; Humpback whale back as it dives

Morning tour

The day started with a bit of cloud cover, but the sea was beautifully calm as we headed out into the bay! It didn’t take us long to find our first highlight of the morning – a playful pod of white-beaked dolphins! It’s hard to put into words just how wonderful those leaping creatures looked with that stunning rainbow stretching out behind them! Moments like that stay with you for a long time.
But this pod was just a warm-up. Further ahead, we spotted a huge blow of a humpback. Grown-up individual who surfaced multiple times near us, performing various blows and fluke dives.

Afternoon tour

A bit of rain rolled in for the afternoon tour, but thanks to the very calm sea conditions, visibility remained excellent for spotting wildlife. This time, our whales made us wait a bit longer than usual. We headed into the spot where we saw the humpback but this one managed to swim 1.5 miles further into the open bay. Luckily, also this time, our whale treated us with huge (and pretty smelly) blows and beautiful fluke dives!

Another incredible day out on the water with some of the bay’s finest residents!
