Whale Watching Daily Diary – May 25th 2026

Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; Humpback whale back as it dives

Morning tour

The day began under cloudy skies as we headed out into the bay, greeted by calm seas and gentle conditions. Although the morning started a little grey, the weather gradually improved throughout the tour and the sun eventually appeared, giving the bay a completely different atmosphere.

Today’s wildlife was waiting further offshore, so we travelled around 10 miles into the bay before finding our first sighting. After some searching, we were rewarded with a beautiful humpback whale surfacing calmly around the boat, giving us several lovely views as it travelled through the area.

Later in the tour, we encountered a separate pod of dolphins moving quickly across the calm waters. Their playful energy was a perfect contrast to the relaxed movements of the humpback earlier in the trip.

A peaceful yet active day out on the water, with fantastic encounters and excellent conditions to enjoy the wildlife of the bay.

Afternoon tour

The afternoon brought brighter skies and plenty of sunshine, while the sea remained wonderfully calm throughout the tour. We once again headed deeper into the bay, where the morning sightings had taken place earlier in the day.

After some time searching the area, we spotted another humpback whale calmly travelling through the bay. The whale surfaced multiple times, allowing everyone onboard to appreciate its size and graceful movements before disappearing below the surface once again.

Not long afterwards, we came across dolphins in a different area of the bay. The pod stayed active around us for several minutes, creating a lively and exciting atmosphere to end the tour.

Another beautiful day in the bay with calm seas, sunshine, humpback whales and playful dolphins!
