Whale Watching Daily Diary – May 9th 2026
Morning tour:
This morning in Faxaflói Bay we sailed in slightly choppy seas with light rain and mist surrounding the bay.
A lively group of White-beaked dolphin greeted us early in the tour, swimming beautifully alongside the boat.
As we continued further out, we encountered many Minke whale sightings across the area.
Several whales surfaced close to us, giving great views despite the weather conditions.
A classic Icelandic morning at sea with amazing wildlife encounters throughout the tour.
Afternoon tour:
During this afternoon’s tour in Faxaflói Bay we had an amazing encounter with two Humpback whales that came very close to the boat.
One of them even breached once, leaping beautifully out of the water to everyone’s excitement.
Later in the tour, we spotted a few minke whales, though they were moving fast and were harder to observe clearly.
A memorable afternoon on the bay with some fantastic whale activity despite the challenging sightings later on.
