Daily diary – August 28 2024

The day began with fine weather, little wind and fairly mild overall. Only after leaving the harbour did the wind start to pick up slightly, but the weather remained fine and this allowed the clouds to move away.
It took us a long time to find our first species. After two hours of sailing we came across a group of white-beaked dolphins, perhaps 6 or 7 individuals. After sailing alongside them it was already time to head back, but on the way back, close to the port, a humpback whale was waiting for us. Just goes to show, when you’re whale watching, you should never give up hope.

In the afternoon, the humpback whale was still there and we spent a long time with it. She showed her tail a few times at first, close to the boat. However, she started going very close to the shore, in very shallow water. We couldn’t follow her too closely in these waters. On the other hand, we were able to observe the whale from a distance and a number of gannets diving alongside. A great spectacle.

Tomorrow the conditions look very good, with good weather, little wind and waves!
