Welcome aboard Sea Trips Reykjavík

Thank you for supporting our small company by coming out to see Iceland’s natural wonders with Sea Trips of Reykjavik. Let us tell you a bit more about ourselves.

Let us tell you a bit more about ourselves.

Our company was set up in 2016 by three friends who love the ocean, as all Icelanders do. We wanted to share its wonders with the world, showing travellers to our lands the jaw-dropping sights that we would see daily.

Between us, we have many years of experience and knowledge of whale watching and fishing, and of the diverse wildlife that can be found in Icelandic waters, especially in Faxafloí, the grand bay that lies outside Reykjavik.

We sail from a pier in the city’s old harbour, right in the centre of town, and within easy walking distance of most hotels and our homes!

When you sail with us, you may well have one of the original three as your ship’s captain, or collecting you from your hotel, as we all pitch in wherever we’re needed.

Because we all worked so well together, and thanks to people like you who have sailed with Sea Trips before, our company has grown and added a couple more family members and old friends to our team along the way.

The company may be young, but we have years of knowledge and experience in different areas, and we use all of it to give you the most wonderful day out.

Years spent out on the water here mean that we know the best places to search for whales, or to find a calm spot nestled in between the islands to give you a picturesque view of the Aurora Borealis, framed by majestic mountains, especially Mount Esja where there are stunning walks.

We are passing our knowledge on to the next generation. In a couple of years, we hope to see our sons and daughters becoming the captains, engineers, and guides for Seatrips.

By choosing us, you are also helping to support their futures too.

There are no other ships like the Amelia Rose in the country, as most whale watching tours are conducted on old ferry boats from the 70s.

We felt that these vessels didn’t really match the beauty and grandeur of our breathtaking scenery. Although she was built as a superyacht, the Amelia Rose is a splendid sightseeing ship, cutting through the waves effortlessly.

Importantly for us, her streamlined design and propeller guards mean that she is more energy-efficient and eco-friendly, and which cannot accidentally injure a cetacean either.

Education is really important to us. On our whale watching tours, our guides will enlighten our guests about the wider ocean environment, as well as the various marine mammals that we’ll see, and what we can do to protect them for future generations.

We’ll also talk about astronomy and the night skies as we wait for the Northern Lights to light up the heavens above us.

Our crew is passionate. About whales. About Iceland. About the Aurora. We want to share it with you, and to do that we will treat you like the individuals you are.

This unique approach means that many of our guests come to see us again, either to take a different tour, or even to relish their original tour once again, because they enjoyed it so much the first time!

In 2019, we received an “Award of Excellence” from TripAdvisor, and we are on track to win it again in 2020, so thank you all so much for your part in that.

We look forward to seeing you in Reykjavik soon, and showing you our incredible wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and awe-inspiring Northern Lights.

All the best,
Your crew at Sea Trips Reykjavik
