Daily Diary – May 31st 2023
Morning trip: We set sail on our whale watching adventure under slightly swaying conditions due to a gentle swell. As we ventured further into the open waters, the excitement grew with each passing moment.
The air was filled with the lively calls of seabirds, including the charming cries of kriyas and the adorable presence of puffins. Their colorful beaks and distinctive markings added a delightful touch to the already breathtaking scenery.
Our perseverance paid off when we encountered not one, but two magnificent minke whales. These graceful creatures glided through the water with ease, showcasing their streamlined bodies and leaving us in awe of their beauty.
But the surprises didn’t end there. We were treated to an incredible spectacle as we spotted at least eight humpback whales in the vicinity. These giants of the ocean graced us with their presence, with a few of them approaching our ship closely. Witnessing these majestic creatures up close was a truly humbling experience. And what a sight it was when they gracefully arched their backs and revealed their magnificent tails as they dived into the depths.
As nature has its way, the weather took a turn, and raindrops began to fall, adding a touch of mystique to the atmosphere. However, the rain soon cleared, and the skies opened up, gifting us with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
With hearts filled with gratitude and awe, we made our way back to shore, cherishing the memories and reflections of this unforgettable whale watching journey. Today’s encounters with minke whales, the incredible humpbacks, and the enchanting birds have left an indelible mark on our souls.
As we disembarked, we couldn’t help but feel a deep appreciation for the wonders of the marine world and a renewed commitment to its preservation. We are grateful to have been part of this extraordinary day, and we eagerly await the adventures that await us on future seafaring expeditions.
