Daily diary – November 17 2024
Finally, after more than a week of canceled tours, we were able to head out to sea, with calm waters and bright sunshine.
The conditions were good, despite the freezing wind from the north. We quickly found a humpback whale in the harbor, very close to the coast. We didn’t have to sail far to spot it. It was a juvenile—a small humpback whale that seems to have stayed behind and hasn’t migrated. It was a lovely surprise, as we spent the entire day observing it. It showed us its tail several times.
Throughout the day, we were also able to see minke whales and seals. There were numerous cormorants, northern fulmars, and gulls around the boat as well.
It feels great to get back out to sea after such a long wait! The upcoming days this week look similar, as we are now in a high-pressure system.
