Whale breaching the water. Fun facts about whales

The northerly winds were especially cold and icy this morning, making the sea a little bit wavy. Luckily the sunrise was beautiful and we enjoyed candyfloss skies for a few hours. We headed out and were rewarded with a humpback whale near the islands. This individual was particularly small and was the same one we saw yesterday. Hopefully, if its a juvenile, it will be staying here all of winter… so fingers crossed! We sailed around the islands to explore some more but unfortunately couldn’t find anything. We stopped off at the humpback whale again and also spotted an individual harbour porpoise jumping through the waves. Just before we decided it was time to leave, the humpback whale breached! TWICE!! What a great way to finish the tour.

The winds and waves had calmed down a lot this afternoon and the sun was still shining! We braved the chill once again and found the humpback whale again. It was a lot more chill this afternoon, but swam up closer to the boat a few times. We also had a lot more seals around the boat, 3 harbour seals. They kept bottling in the water, and one even seemed to be quite small and young. Everyone found it so cute! Again we saw a few harbour porpoises jumping through the water. Once the sun started setting, it was time to head back to dock and enjoy the views.
