Daily diary – November 24 2024

The winds were very strong today, coming from the north, which made it easy to sail towards Hafnarfjörður. The sunrise was beautiful and the volcano was still erupting in the distance. Once we reached the harbour, there were a few harbour porpoises swimming by the boat. As they disappeared, a small minke whale popped up in front of us. It surfaced a few times before disappearing again. We searched for a bit around the harbour and then went out a little further where we eventually found the humpback whale pair again! They were making their way back to the harbour! We saw them swimming around for a bit before heading back into the rough seas, crashing against the waves but having fun!

Our two boats went out this afternoon, with one heading to Hafnarfjörður and the other staying around Reykjavik! Luckily enough for both boats, we saw a lot of humpback whales between us! In Hafnarfjörður, we saw the two from earlier on, but this time they were lunge feeding! They came really far out of the water as they did this! Everyone was so happy and excited watching them. Just before we left, they swam right under the boat! Back in Reykjavik, they also had a few humpback whales which were breaching and tail-slapping! What an amazing afternoon for everyone!
