Daily diary – November 4 2024

With very little wind, we set sail out into the bay! It was much warmer today than it has been previously so was a lovely start to the day. We headed further out into the bay where we had sightings yesterday and on our way saw a pod of harbour porpoises. We didn´t see anything so we headed back towards Reykjavik where we heard there was more activity. As we were approaching, we saw quite a few minke whales. Out of nowhere, two blows from humpback whales popped up under some birds that were feeding!! There were swimming very slowly around us and one of them even slapped its pectoral fins a couple of times. We headed back after spending some time with them and were surprised by a pod of white-beaked dolphins too!

The afternoon continued with no wind and even some blue skies, however the swell had picked up a bit. Everyone still braved the sea! Early on in the tour, we saw another pod of harbour porpoises and a few minke whales around the boat too. We soon arrived where the humpback whales were before but found 3 different humpback whales than this morning! How amazing! We watched them swimming together for a little bit before one of them decided to pectoral slap with both fins! On our way back to harbour, we found out that there were white-beaked dolphins, so we went to see them a few times before we really had to make our way back home! What a great day.
