Frequently Asked Questions

Are reservations required?
Reservations are not required but we strongly recommend you make one to avoid disappointment upon arrival.

Where do the trips leave from and how do I get there?
Sea Trips Reykjavík is located 5 minutes from downtown Reykjavík at the Hlésgata, near the Old Harbor. If you have your own vehicle, we offer free all day parking. Another option is to make reservations on our pickup service, we pick up from several locations in downtown Reykjavík.

Travelers must be checked-in no later than 45 minutes prior to sailing. Boarding closes 15 minutes before departure. Late arrivals will be cancelled with no refunds.

How should I dress? What should I bring?
We recommend all guests dress warmly in layers and good footwear as it is always colder on the water. We provide you with warm blankets, and you can always watch and stay warm by viewing from our wheelhouse with our friendly captains. Don´t forget your camera and a sense of adventure!

What if there are no sightings?
If there are no sightings on the tour we do not refund the tour price but offer a complimentary voucher for the same tour on the next available day, valid for three years.

What is the cancellation policy?
You may cancel 48 hours prior to departure without penalty if your travel plans change. At less than 48 hours cancellations incur a 50% charge.

How close do we get to the whales?
We are allowed to get within 100 meters (110 yards) of the whales. At this distance you get an excellent view of these gentle giants. Sometimes the whales choose to approach us and pop back up from a dive right next to the boat!

What are the chances of seeing whales?
The chance of seeing whales varies with the seasons. We work with a network of whale watching operators and share sighting information. This gives us a sighting success rate of about 90% in the summer months, less during the winter. We start at the Vesturbugt and, traveling along the Reykjavík Coast passengers see a variety of wildlife including porpoises, seals, dolphins, and other species.

Do you see more whales on the morning or the afternoon trip?
Whales are spotted equally in the mornings and afternoons.

Will I get seasick?
Everyone is affected by the ocean differently. Our ships are very stable, and we don’t go out in very rough weather. However, we supply seasickness tablets for free if you want them. We also recommend having a full stomach before you get on board and sipping drinks throughout the trip if you are concerned.
