Whale Watching Daily Diary – April 20th 2026

Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; Humpback whale flukes showing their unique black and white pattern seen whilst whale watching in Faxafloi Reykjavik, Iceland

Today’s conditions in the bay were amazing! The summer is officially here. We enjoyed a sunny day, calm seas and good visibility, so we set sail from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik towards the open waters of Faxaflói.

After some time searching, we were able to spot our first whales. We had the chance to encounter both 3 humpbacks and 3 minke whales! Both species appeared calm and relaxed during our sightings. They surfaced several times and allowed us to observe them well, although their activity levels were lower compared to previous days.

In the afternoon the weather conditions remained equally good. We started our tour with a minke whale which was waiting for us right behind the harbour wall. Later, in deeper parts of the bay we saw much more of them, around 11 minkes in the total run! In the very end of the tour we also spotted a huge blow of a humpback, finished with a cherry on top – a beautiful tail!

All in all, it was a good day at sea with nice sightings and happy passengers on board.
