Reykjavik Iceland, whale watching Tour photo; minke whale fin in sunlight in calm water near reykjavik Iceland

Morning tour

The conditions in Faxafloi Bay were absolutely stunning today! Calm seas, excellent visibility and hardly a breath of wind.
You could sense the presence of the orcas from yesterday, as the bay seemed somehow quieter. Fortunately, although quite far from the shore, we managed to spot a beautiful humpback whale swimming around, looking very relaxed. It was the same one we saw yesterday – once again it didn’t show its tail, but we identified it by its hooked dorsal fin. We also spotted a minke whale in the distance!

Afternoon tour

The weather was also on our side in the afternoon. Near the Grota lighthouse, we spotted a pod of white-beaked dolphins – about 4 or 5 of them. Further out in the deeper parts of the bay, we came across two minke whales and some very playful harbour porpoises… much to the delight of the crew. The harbour porpoises remained in the bay even after yesterday’s visit from the orcas 🙂

We mustn’t forget to mention that we spotted countless puffins! A brilliant day.
