Whale Watching Daily Diary – May 3rd 2026

Humpback whale flukes top side

We had surprisingly perfect conditions for whale-watching in our bay today! The sun was shining right in our faces, visibility was excellent, and the calm sea was a welcome change after the recent stormy days.

We reckon summer has officially arrived in Iceland, and this is confirmed not only by the weather but also by the growing number of puffins we’re seeing both around the islands and out on the open sea!

As for the whales, we saw as many as three humpback whales today. Just like yesterday, they were swimming alone, several hundred metres apart. They were exceptionally calm today, taking very long dives, but they showed their tails several times, and we were able to easily capture them on camera. As well as the humpback whales, we also encountered a lot of white-beaked dolphins in the area. These remained very active, performing acrobatics, jumps and splashes all around our ship. In the distance, we also spotted a few minke whales, but we never managed to get a close look at them – they kept us at a distance.

A very good result; both tours – morning and afternoon – were full of wildlife sightings!
