Whale Watching Daily Diary – 8th June 2026
Morning Tour
What a fantastic summer morning on Faxaflói Bay! We set out under bright sunshine, calm seas, and only a slight breeze, creating ideal conditions for wildlife watching. Visibility was excellent, allowing us to enjoy every moment on the water.
Our first encounter of the day was a playful pod of white-beaked dolphins. They were full of energy and curiosity, approaching the boat closely as if they wanted to inspect their visitors. Their lively behavior brought smiles all around.
Later, we were delighted to find a young humpback whale. The relaxed juvenile spent time calmly surfacing around us and treated us to several beautiful fluke displays as it dove beneath the surface. A peaceful and memorable sighting to round off a wonderful morning at sea.
Afternoon Tour
The incredible weather continued into the afternoon, with sunshine, calm waters, and a gentle breeze accompanying us throughout the tour.
Not long after leaving the harbour, we encountered two separate pods of white-beaked dolphins. The dolphins were active and social, making for fantastic viewing as they travelled through the bay.
As we continued our search, we arrived in an area bustling with seabirds feeding over the water. Among all the activity, we spotted three minke whales moving through the rich feeding grounds, surfacing regularly as they foraged beneath the birds.
The highlight of the tour was still to come. We soon found a humpback whale that seemed determined to put on a show. It breached repeatedly, launching its body clear out of the water time and time again. On several occasions, it even completed spectacular 360-degree spins in the air before crashing back into the sea. To top it all off, the whale performed pectoral fin slaps, creating huge splashes visible from afar. An absolutely breathtaking encounter and the perfect ending to an unforgettable day of whale watching!
